A series of high-level meetings were held as part of the business visit to Malaysia by the delegation of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority. As part of the visit, a meeting was held with representatives of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysia’s principal investment promotion agency. During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on investment promotion, attracting international investors and opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions. Representatives of MIDA were also provided with detailed information on the activities, investment incentives, development plans and infrastructure of the Alat Free Economic Zone, as well as the opportunities it offers to international companies seeking to establish and expand their operations in the region.

AFEZ Delegation meets with Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA)

A series of high-level meetings were held as part of the business visit to Malaysia by the delegation of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority. As part of the visit, a meeting was held with representatives of POS Aviation, during which discussions focused on the new international airport currently under construction within the Alat Free Economic Zone and its future operations. The parties discussed the airport’s potential role in air cargo transportation and opportunities for cooperation in this area. Representatives of POS Aviation were also provided with detailed information on the activities, development plans and infrastructure of the Alat Free Economic Zone.

AFEZ Delegation holds meeting with POS Aviation in Malaysia

A series of high-level meetings were held as part of the business visit to Malaysia by the delegation of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority. 

As part of the visit, a meeting was held with Mr. S. Jai Shankar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). During the meeting, detailed information was provided on the activities of the Alat Free Economic Zone, the favorable conditions created for investors and the investment opportunities available within AFEZ. The opportunities presented were received with interest by MATRADE, which noted that Malaysian investors would be provided with further information on the investment opportunities offered by the AFEZ.

A series of high-level meetings were held as part of the business visit to Malaysia by the delegation of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority. The delegation met with Mr. Samer Elesawi, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank Center of Excellence. During the meeting, Mr. Elesawi highly praised the organization of the Islamic Development Bank Group Annual Meeting held in Baku earlier this year. The parties exchanged information on the activities of the Alat Free Economic Zone and the Islamic Development Bank. Representatives of the Islamic Development Bank expressed their interest in cooperation with AFEZ and noted that investors from the organization’s member countries would be informed about the opportunities offered by the Alat Free Economic Zone.

A meetings held with the Islamic Development Bank Center of Excellence as part of the AFEZ Delegation’s business visit to Malaysia

On 22 September, a special event dedicated to the Alat Free Economic Zone was held in Kuala Lumpur. The event brought together high-level representatives of Malaysian government and business entities, business associations, chambers of commerce and industry, as well as companies operating across various sectors. 

The event opened with remarks by H.E. Mr. Khazar Farhadov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Malaysia. The Ambassador provided an overview of the existing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Malaysia and the prospects for further development of economic and trade relations between the two countries, highlighting the role of the Alat Free Economic Zone and the opportunities it offers in this context. 

Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, then delivered a comprehensive presentation on AFEZ. The presentation provided detailed information on AFEZ’s strategic geographical location, unique legal framework, package of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, ready-to-use industrial land plots with ready-to-use infrastructure and utilities, services provided through the “one-stop shop” principle, and other investment opportunities. 

At the conclusion of the presentation, Mr. Alasgarov invited representatives of the Malaysian business community to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Alat Free Economic Zone and establish export-oriented manufacturing facilities within AFEZ. He also responded to questions raised by the participants.

A delegation from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) paid a visit to the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ).During the meeting, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority, Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the strategic role of the Zone as a major industrial, logistics, and investment hub in the region. The delegation was briefed on the large-scale infrastructure works being carried out within the Zone, including the development of transport connectivity, utility networks, engineering systems, and modern industrial facilities.During the visit, the parties exchanged views on prospects for further cooperation. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration and exploring opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at promoting sustainable economic development and attracting long-term investment.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Islamic Development Bank delegation visited Alat Free Economic Zone

From 20 to 27 September 2026, the delegation of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority will pay a business visit to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, upon the invitation of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). From 20 to 23 September, the delegation will be led by Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority. 

As part of the visit, aimed at promoting the Alat Free Economic Zone and expanding international cooperation, meetings will be held with high-level representatives of a number of Malaysian government bodies and relevant organizations. During the meetings, AFEZ’s activities and investment opportunities will be presented, and potential areas of cooperation will be discussed. 

Additionally, the Authority will also be represented with a dedicated stand at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), to be held in Kuala Lumpur from 23 to 26 September.&nbsp; During the exhibition, AFEZ’s investment opportunities will be presented to the international business community, and meetings will be held with potential investors. 

The visit will contribute to the international promotion of the Alat Free Economic Zone, the establishment of new business relations, and the creation of new opportunities to attract high value-added, export-oriented manufacturing projects to AFEZ.

AFEZ Authority delegation to pay a business Visit to Malaysia

The Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ) Authority was represented in the 1st Go Net Zero Energy – Central Asia &amp; Caspian Business Summit, held on 8 September 2026 in Astana, Kazakhstan. The Summit brought together government representatives, investors, energy companies, and industry experts to discuss the energy transition, decarbonization, and sustainable development across Central Asia and the Caspian region.As part of the Summit programme, a representative of the AFEZ Authority presented AFEZ’s perspective on the role of investment hubs and economic zones in supporting the transition of industries towards cleaner and more sustainable production. The presentation highlighted practical examples from AFEZ, as well as the Zone’s unique legal framework, fiscal and non-fiscal incentives package, strategic geographic location, land plots with ready-to-use infrastructure and utilities, and other advantages.The presentation also outlined AFEZ’s efforts to develop an integrated renewable energy ecosystem and promote the use of rooftop solar installations among registered companies.&nbsp;&nbsp;

AFEZ Authority Participates in Go Net Zero Energy – Central Asia & Caspian Business Summit

On September 1, 2026, a meeting was held between the delegation led by Ambassador of Greece to Azerbaijan Ms. Maria Papakonstantinou and the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority (AFEZ Authority).

During the meeting, the Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority, Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, delivered a detailed presentation on the Alat Free Economic Zone. The presentation highlighted the Zone’s unique legal framework, ready-to-use on-site and off-site infrastructure, industrial land plots equipped with engineering and utility systems, a comprehensive package of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, as well as its transport and logistics centers.

Ambassador Maria Papakonstantinou noted that the presentation on the Alat Free Economic Zone had made a strong impression on the Greek delegation. She highlighted the particular attractiveness of unique legal base and industrial land plots equipped with ready-to-use essential infrastructure for prospective investors. The Ambassador further expressed her readiness to facilitate the dissemination of information on the Alat Free Economic Zone among relevant Greek business circles and potential investors, particularly those operating in the pharmaceutical industry, alternative energy, and other high value-added sectors to promote awareness of the investment opportunities available within the AFEZ and encouraging potential cooperation.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Greek side expressed strong interest in maintaining further dialogue and exploring opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Ambassador of Greece paid an official visit to the Alat Free Economic Zone

&nbsp;A meeting was held between Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority and TRACECA Secretary General Mr. Jasurbek Choriyev. During the meeting, the parties discussed prospects for establishing practical cooperation between TRACECA and the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority.

Particular attention was paid to establishing practical cooperation and ensuring the regular exchange of data on the types and nature of cargo transported along the TRACECA route. At the same time, the parties are considering signing a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation that will define the key areas of their joint activities.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties confirmed that they share similar approaches to developing the region’s transport and logistics potential.The Alat Free Economic Zone is located in close proximity to the Baku International Sea Trade Port, at the intersection of the international East–West and North–South transport corridors. In total, approximately 6,500 hectares have been allocated for the Alat Free Economic Zone, with more than 1,000 hectares reserved for future expansion.The zone currently operates a 5-hectare logistics centre with an annual handling capacity of 500,000 tonnes of cargo transported by road and also provides access to railway infrastructure.Construction of a new international airport is ongoing. Its cargo and business terminals are scheduled to become operational no later than the first quarter of 2027, with an initial annual cargo handling capacity of 500,000 tonnes, subsequently increasing to 1.5 million tonnes per year.&nbsp;&nbsp;
