Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ) welcomed a Chinese business delegation led by Mr. Wang Lianyun, President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries in Suqian, and Mr. Day Daolu, Chairman of Jiangsu Yongjia Investment Holding Group Co., Ltd. 

The visit, organized within the framework of cooperation between the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, brought together representatives of Chinese companies operating in various sectors, including industry, manufacturing, technology, engineering, and construction. 

During the meeting, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority, Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the strategic significance of the Zone as a major industrial, logistics, and investment hub in the region. The delegation was provided with detailed information on AFEZ's strategic advantages, favorable investment environment, and ongoing large-scale infrastructure development projects within the Zone, including the establishment of modern transport infrastructure, utility networks, engineering systems, and industrial facilities designed to create favorable conditions for international investors. 

The parties exchanged views on prospects for further cooperation, with particular emphasis on strengthening bilateral economic and business relations, facilitating the participation of Chinese companies in investment projects within AFEZ, and identifying potential areas for industrial and investment cooperation. 

Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional and business ties, fostering mutually beneficial partnerships, and promoting long-term investment opportunities contributing to sustainable economic development.

Chinese business delegation visits Alat Free Economic Zone

A delegation from the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan), headed by its Director, Ms. Nargis Wieck, and comprising representatives of German government authorities and the German business community, paid an official visit to the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ).

During the meeting, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority, Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the strategic significance of the Zone as a major industrial, logistics, and investment hub in the region.

The delegation was provided with detailed information on the ongoing large-scale infrastructure development projects within the Zone, including the establishment of modern transport infrastructure, utility networks, engineering systems, and industrial facilities designed to create favorable conditions for international investors.

During the visit, the parties exchanged views on prospects for further cooperation, with particular emphasis on strengthening bilateral economic and business relations, facilitating the participation of German companies in investment projects within AFEZ, and identifying potential areas for industrial and investment cooperation.

Delegation of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan) visits Alat Free Economic Zone

The Alat Free Economic Zone Authority was represented with a dedicated stand at the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS), held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. 

During the exhibition, the activities of the Alat Free Economic Zone, the favorable business environment created for investors, and its investment opportunities were presented to the international business community. Visitors were provided with detailed information on the AFEZ’s strategic geographical location, unique legal framework, package of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, ready-to-use industrial land plots equipped with modern infrastructure, and other advantages. 

Throughout the exhibition, meetings were held with representatives of companies from various countries and industrial sectors to explore opportunities for implementing high value-added, export-oriented manufacturing projects within AFEZ. Potential investors’ questions were addressed, and views were exchanged on possible areas of cooperation. Malaysian companies showed particular interest in the favorable investment opportunities offered by AFEZ. 

Participation in the MIHAS international exhibition contributed to further promoting the Alat Free Economic Zone within the international business community, establishing new business connections, and expanding opportunities for cooperation with potential investors.

Investment opportunities of the Alat Free Economic Zone presented at MIHAS International Exhibition

On 26 September 2026, during the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026), Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority (AFEZA), and Yang Xueren, Chairman of the Board of China’s Hong Kong Renteng International Trade Co., Limited, signed an investment agreement for the establishment of a manufacturing facility in the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ). The facility will focus on the calcination of petroleum coke and the production of carbon anode blocks.

 The project marks another milestone in AFEZ’s efforts to attract international investment, promote high-value-added manufacturing and strengthen Azerbaijan’s integration into regional and global industrial supply chains.

Investment Agreement signed for the establishment of a petroleum coke calcination and carbon anode production facility in the Alat Free Economic Zone

On September 25, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority and Ukraine’s “INOVEST” company within the framework of th 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum.The Memorandum covers cooperation on an investment project envisaging the establishment of a new high value-added manufacturing facility in the Alat Free Economic Zone. For the implementation of the project, “Inovest AFEZCO” has been established in the Alat Free Economic Zone.The project includes the establishment of a manufacturing facility for the production of silicon carbide, silicon oxide and silicon. The products are primarily intended for use in the semiconductor, electronics and other high-tech industries.The initial investment in the project amounts to EUR 20 million. The project is expected to create 100 new jobs at the initial stage, with additional employment opportunities planned as production capacity expands.&nbsp;&nbsp;

A series of high-level meetings were held as part of the business visit to Malaysia by the delegation of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority. As part of the visit, a meeting was held with representatives of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), Malaysia’s principal investment promotion agency. During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on investment promotion, attracting international investors and opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions. Representatives of MIDA were also provided with detailed information on the activities, investment incentives, development plans and infrastructure of the Alat Free Economic Zone, as well as the opportunities it offers to international companies seeking to establish and expand their operations in the region.

AFEZ Delegation meets with Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA)

A series of high-level meetings were held as part of the business visit to Malaysia by the delegation of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority. As part of the visit, a meeting was held with representatives of POS Aviation, during which discussions focused on the new international airport currently under construction within the Alat Free Economic Zone and its future operations. The parties discussed the airport’s potential role in air cargo transportation and opportunities for cooperation in this area. Representatives of POS Aviation were also provided with detailed information on the activities, development plans and infrastructure of the Alat Free Economic Zone.

AFEZ Delegation holds meeting with POS Aviation in Malaysia

A series of high-level meetings were held as part of the business visit to Malaysia by the delegation of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority. 

As part of the visit, a meeting was held with Mr. S. Jai Shankar, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE). During the meeting, detailed information was provided on the activities of the Alat Free Economic Zone, the favorable conditions created for investors and the investment opportunities available within AFEZ. The opportunities presented were received with interest by MATRADE, which noted that Malaysian investors would be provided with further information on the investment opportunities offered by the AFEZ.

A series of high-level meetings were held as part of the business visit to Malaysia by the delegation of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, led by Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the AFEZ Authority. The delegation met with Mr. Samer Elesawi, Chairman of the Islamic Development Bank Center of Excellence. During the meeting, Mr. Elesawi highly praised the organization of the Islamic Development Bank Group Annual Meeting held in Baku earlier this year. The parties exchanged information on the activities of the Alat Free Economic Zone and the Islamic Development Bank. Representatives of the Islamic Development Bank expressed their interest in cooperation with AFEZ and noted that investors from the organization’s member countries would be informed about the opportunities offered by the Alat Free Economic Zone.

A meetings held with the Islamic Development Bank Center of Excellence as part of the AFEZ Delegation’s business visit to Malaysia

On 22 September, a special event dedicated to the Alat Free Economic Zone was held in Kuala Lumpur. The event brought together high-level representatives of Malaysian government and business entities, business associations, chambers of commerce and industry, as well as companies operating across various sectors. 

The event opened with remarks by H.E. Mr. Khazar Farhadov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Malaysia. The Ambassador provided an overview of the existing cooperation between Azerbaijan and Malaysia and the prospects for further development of economic and trade relations between the two countries, highlighting the role of the Alat Free Economic Zone and the opportunities it offers in this context. 

Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the Board of the Alat Free Economic Zone Authority, then delivered a comprehensive presentation on AFEZ. The presentation provided detailed information on AFEZ’s strategic geographical location, unique legal framework, package of fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, ready-to-use industrial land plots with ready-to-use infrastructure and utilities, services provided through the “one-stop shop” principle, and other investment opportunities. 

At the conclusion of the presentation, Mr. Alasgarov invited representatives of the Malaysian business community to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Alat Free Economic Zone and establish export-oriented manufacturing facilities within AFEZ. He also responded to questions raised by the participants.
