Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ) takes the impact on the environment very seriously. During the analysis of the submitted investment proposals, special attention is paid to environmental sustainability of each project, and we request companies to adhere to the best internationally recognized standards.
We are committed to creating a safe working environment for all Clients, supported by rigorous safety protocols and continuous improvement efforts.
Furthermore, taking into consideration the increasing demand for renewable energy, currently, AFEZ Authority is aiming to attract renewable energy companies to produce solar panels, wind turbines and blades within AFEZ, as well as to build renewable energy power stations.
It should be highlighted that the establishment of renewable energy-producing facilities in the area of AFEZ will be highly cost effective. At the first stage, the assembly of renewable energy equipment in AFEZ would reduce the cost of electricity production. At the next stage, assuming that the production of all equipment will be facilitated within AFEZ, the cost will drop further. Consequently, due to the low price of equipment, low price of construction and low cost of operation, the cost of energy produced and exported to Europe, and other parts of the world, will be cheaper.
In particular, the production of wind towers and blades will be advantageous in AFEZ, as it will allow to avoid high transportation costs and shipping difficulties with regards to wind towers and blades, as well as allow for more cost-effective electricity production due to the benefits and incentives of AFEZ.
Moreover, AFEZ Authority suggests the registered legal entities to install solar panels on the roofs of their production facilities, for energy cost-saving purposes.
A great example of this, is the AlatBay Logistics Center, operating within AFEZ, that has been awarded the EDGE ADVANCED GREEN certificate. EDGE is an innovative methodology implemented by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in the field of green investments. With the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), international consultants operating in the field of green investment were hired for the design of the Logistics Center, and all works on the project were carried out based on the EDGE GREEN methodology.
As a result, a 41% reduction in energy usage and a 26% decrease in water consumption has been achieved. The said project by meeting this exceptional level of environmental impact, will have a lasting positive effect not only on the project users but also on the environment in the years to come.
