On January 23, 2025, the event "Azerbaijan: Hub of the Future – Strategic Opportunities for German Companies" was held in Mainz, Germany, to strengthen German-Azerbaijani trade relations and explore new business opportunities. Organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan and the Rheinhessen Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the event featured key speeches and panel discussions.

Ms. Karina Szwede, CEO of the Rheinhessen Chamber, highlighted the event’s role in fostering bilateral economic cooperation and partnership opportunities. Ms. Petra Dick-Walther, State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy, underscored Azerbaijan’s role as a reliable energy partner for Germany and its strategic location for accessing markets in Central Asia and beyond.

Ambassador H.E. Nasimi Aghayev discussed Azerbaijan’s favorable investment climate and the Alat Free Economic Zone (AFEZ) as a key opportunity for German businesses.

During the panel, Mr. Valeh Alasgarov, Chairman of the AFEZ Authority, outlined the zone’s advantages, including its legal framework, ready-to-use industrial land, and fiscal incentives for investors. He emphasized AFEZ’s simplified registration process, where legislation takes precedence over the base economy, and the One-Stop Shop Business Centre designed to streamline investor operations.

Mr. Alasgarov also highlighted AFEZ’s strategic location near the Baku International Sea Trade Port, providing access to key trade corridors like the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the North-South Corridor. Additionally, AFEZ’s focus on green energy initiatives attracts renewable energy companies, offering low-cost energy and enhanced efficiency.
